Racism is Alive and Well
And on that note: Haley Barbour can kiss goodbye his chances of becoming the Republican candidate for President in 2010, and of being elected to any office at the national level... thanks to Rachel Maddow.

It's the Numbers, Stupid!
The chart below highlights the amount that will be saved by each income bracket indicated under the Democratic-proposed, the Republican-proposed, and the Obama-Republican plans separately.
And you wonder why liberals are angry? This country's elected officials have gone insane, starting with Obama at the top. I mean that.
No one in Washington, save for those twelve senators who voted against this plan, has the moral right to pretend to care about deficits and debts anymore. NO ONE! But they are all hypocrites so they will anyway, at the first chance they get.

Politics and Bigotry Before Justice
An exposé of the hypocrisy plaguing our Congress and obstructing its legislative process, this time on Don't-Ask-Don't-Tell:

'Little Terrorists'
Aaaaaaaah! This Texas representative seems to suggest that children born to illegal immigrants in the United States leave the country, become terrorists, and then come back and are a threat to our security. Yes.... Because only U.S. citizens can (re)enter the country, right?
This woman is an idiot. She cites dubious sources devoid of proof and, what's more, pushes down our throats the image of illegal immigration as a direct threat to our security. Security! It's one thing to say it's a fiscal problem, but to make any suggestion that they are 'little terrorists' serves only the purpose of eliciting images of brown babies with dynamite strapped to their bodies. And that is certainly the image that the fear-mongering Republicans want people to have in mind when voting this year.
Election years are depressing but also a good test for the sanity of our representatives. This woman has failed it.

A Good Season for Xenophobia
With few things left to criticize and with much promise for appeal to ball-suckers (today's epithet for teabaggers), the GOP has turned its attention to the document it touts as 'perfect' and 'immutable,' but also as 'flawed' when it so pleases its members. Their calls to repeal or amend the Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment are just a desperate effort to garner votes before elections take place. Frustrations with illegal immigrants are legitimate and certainly worth addressing, but man, do they know how to amplify and inflate facts only to portray illegal immigrants as our biggest threat or thorn in our eye.
The New York Times is on it.
The NYT is equally—and justifiably—critical of Sarkozy's latest series of xenophobic measures. They are the latest in his attempts to secure a few votes from the extreme right, or to distract public opinion from his failures as Monsieur le Président.

Trimming the Bush
The younger Bush is well on his way to becoming a hallowed figure in conservative circles, much like Reagan—the president who expanded government more than anybody since FDR and more than his three predecessors combined—is today. It is the purpose of the well-oiled (double entendre is quite intentional) to portray him as a true conservative who improved everything from taxes and the budget to international relations. Everyone with an ounce of functioning brain knows he did nothing of the sort. On the contrary, his tax cuts were detrimental to the economy itself and, of course, the budget; and the international relations can be summarized in one word: Iraq.
Paul Krugman's latest op-ed in The New York Times says this much better, but is worth reiterating how, time after time, Republicans and conservatives in general come back with a rewriting history or a re-polishing of figures in order to, then, shape the future of politics and return to power and keep doing just the same thing that required the polishing in the first place.

What Republicans Have to Offer in November
You guessed it: NOTHING! Nada! Zip!
Allowed to win a majority in either the House or Senate and left to their own devices, they will do nothing different from the Bush years. What's more, they will repeal none of the bills passed in the past year and a half, despite their outrage and loud calls for repeal after their passage.
This somehow makes the joke of the Democratic Party in South Carolina seem like a good idea.

Loon Watch
Here is the Republican alternative to Harry Reid of the Democrats in Nevada. Now, I'm no big fan of Harry Reid—I think he could have been a tougher majority leader—but this woman has just guaranteed his reelection with her senseless, unrealistic view of the situation in her state and in the nation.
Have the Republicans stopped trying?

Of Fear
Fear has become the motivating force behind Republican talking points and, to my chagrin, it is quite effective. People are more prone to succumbing to fear-driven rhetoric than any other and of course it's going to work!
Paul Krugman puts it into the context of the calvary that was the passing of this healthcare reform bill.

What Bunning's Butting In Causes
Doctors cannot get reimbursed for Medicare, thanks to a recalcitrant senator from Kentucky. Not to mention the millions who rely on unemployment benefits across the nation who are now left high and dry.

Republican Disingenuousness
As always, Rachel Maddow is on top of the latest chicanery from Republicans. And, as always, Republicans do not disappoint in showing that they are masters of flagrant prevarication and have the audacity to repeatedly iterate the lie that they collectively agree upon. The lies they propagate, including those statements made today by no one other than McCain, besmirch the whole principle of a democracy. Suddenly, to them, fifty-one votes in the senate do not count as a majority. The normal is now sixty. What's next, Republicans? A two-thirds majority to pass everything? We have never been at war with Eastasia? 2 + 2 = 5?
Stop rewriting history and stop lying to the American people. Sure, a lot of them are misinformed and misled by you and your Fox News propaganda machine, but still... have you no decency, at long last?! Accept that you are in the minority and get to work on trying to regain your majority. Until then, let the majority that has been democratically elected do its work. Let them pass bills through a simple majority, as normal senatorial rules and political, legislative decency dictate. Stop naming things 'nuclear.' The cold war is over.
Just watch. I'm too exhausted to get into the technicalities of it. I said my piece.

Democracy Inaction
If democracy means having the Senate in a Republican chokehold and therefore not being able to pass 290 bills that have already passed the House, Democrats had better rethink things and grow some testicular glands....

Machiavellian Machinations
Paul Krugman had an editorial in today's New York Times that, in a few words, summarized and articulated what I have always known about post-Reagan Republicans and their willingness to bring the country to the verge of total collapse. Not to mention their hypocrisy of speaking against government expansion and expanding it since Reagan.

Republican Hypocrisy
I wish I had kept count of all posts related to Republican hypocrisy, but alas! I haven't.... I would have lost count long ago, anyway....
Here's the latest from one of the few genuinely journalistic voices on television, Rachel Maddow:

What Republicans are All About
I'm not a Democrat and I hope those of you who don't know me will take my word for it. I am, however, much more in line with their way of thinking and their actions than I am with those of Republicans. Why?
Well, look at the video below and see what they're standing up for. And then skip below the video and see what self-identified Republicans around the country are thinking nowadays.
No, siree, Bob, I ain't no Republican....

Brown v. Himself?
This is the candidate that the GOP has chosen in Massachusetts. Massachusetts people need to know that he is no small-government Republican or conservative in the classical sense (whom even I would support in the right circumstances or against a worthless opponent); he is a bigot, a Palinite, Limbaughesque figure with nothing to say except the most caricaturized and tired outcries that crumble over their own weight before he is done talking.
Listen as he cries out 'Sexism!' in support of Palin, only to say later that she won't be a lone woman in that position; her hubby will be with her. Like having a secessionist next to an idiot is a big comfort!
Oh, and Obama may be a bastard, too. His implication, not mine....
