The so-called 'birthers'—those who doubt that Pres. Obama is a natural-born citizen of the United States—find greater backing in the South, according to this poll. Surprise, surprise!

Right-Wing Propaganda

These rumors are tamer than the ones claiming that the elderly will be 'put to death' early, but they are still part of the fear-mongering propaganda that generates in the right wing. We all know why they single out the elderly in particular: they are more likely to vote than any other age group and these are the right wing's cheap and feeble attempts to secure votes in the 2010 elections.

Torture Around the World

The Economist published results from a poll on torture today. Apparently, almost half of Americans think that some degree of abuse should be allowed, bringing its acceptance slightly higher than in Russia. Meanwhile, only about 10-15% of Spaniards, Brits and French seem to want it.

Right-Wing Health Insanity

The fear-mongering continues. The right wing continues to propagate the idea that the proposed public healthcare plan will force the elderly to terminate their lives as an alternative to continuing care. Slate Magazine looks at this propaganda in a little more detail.

Meanwhile, the Family Research Council echoes the same falsity in the commercial below, while quite tastelessly combining misinformation with very bad acting.
